Currently slated for summer 2007 construction, Cornerstone Care is a one-story medical clinic located near Waynesburg, Pennsylvania. The design was completed for a non-profit organization that provides low cost dental and counseling services for under-served rural communities. The building responds to both the programmatic need for varying degrees of privacy and a bright, comfortable environment. The translucent exterior cladding is inspired by screening elements found in traditional Japanese architecture, while the horizontal composition and use of modern materials call to mind the high-tech nature of modern medicine. The gable roofs with large overhangs and open soffits suggest shelter and refer to a familiar local vernacular.
